AMAST Partners with RCVS Knowledge to Deliver Essential Workshops on Medicine Hub Implementation

AMAST (AMR in Agrifood Systems Transdisciplinary Network) is proud to partner with RCVS Knowledge to deliver two upcoming workshops focused on advancing antimicrobial stewardship in the UK’s ruminant sectors.

The event, “Top tips & teamwork for tackling Medicine Hub,” will take place on two different dates:

Led by sheep veterinarian and RCVS Knowledge Clinical Lead for Medicines, Dr. Fiona Lovatt, these workshops represent a step forward in building a robust evidence base for responsible antibiotic use in livestock farming.

The sessions will provide practical guidance for veterinary teams on implementing effective data collection systems, both within practices and on farms.

    Building Capacity for Antimicrobial Stewardship

The workshop addresses critical needs in the veterinary sector, including:

    • Preparation for upcoming farm assurance requirements
    • Enhancement of medicine data handling procedures in alignment with potential future UK-EU trade requirements
    • Development of practice-specific goals and monitoring systems
    • Creation of a community of proactive farm veterinary professionals committed to evidence-based antibiotic use
    • Support for maintaining the reputation of UK red meat and milk industries through improved antibiotic data reporting

    A Collaborative Approach

The organisers strongly encourage practices to send both clinical and administrative team members, recognising that successful implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs requires coordination across the entire practice. Participants will benefit from:

    • Hands-on training in Medicine Hub implementation
    • Interactive sessions with colleagues facing similar challenges
    • Real-world case studies from Farm Vet Champion ambassador practitioners
    • Access to ongoing support, including follow-up online team sessions with Dr. Lovatt

This workshop is part of AMAST’s ongoing commitment to supporting practical initiatives that advance antimicrobial stewardship across the UK’s agrifood sector. AMAST is a UKRI-funded initiative focused on addressing antimicrobial resistance challenges across UK agrifood systems.
